from Wire Instruments: "The Spanish Castle fuzz is based on the 1970 silicon Fuzz Face circuit with each component on the board chosen to tailor it’s transistor bias and input/output capacitance to what you are hearing.

It has an external “Cleaning“ pot (middle knob) along with the standard Volume and Gain. This pot acts like turning down the volume knob on your guitar to clean up the fuzz. It can be used to preset the sound as with the volume knob rolled back. It also allows easier control of the volume knob on your guitar when the Cleaning pot is turned a bit. Turning it down a hair, the Cleaning knob will also allow the fuzz to work better after a vintage style wah pedal. These pedals are interactive and very sensitive to your guitar volume.

You may try running a boost, overdrive or compressor into the fuzz face, or vice versa, with varying volume settings on the guitar and/or effects. But for the purest tone, there should be no effects between the guitar and the fuzz. However, effects with true bypass that are turned OFF are OK before the fuzz."
